BVCU Joins BC Credit Unions in Collaborative Support for Tumbler Ridge

This April, management and leaders from 12 credit unions across Northern BC, the Okanagan, and the Kootenays gathered in Salmon Arm for the inaugural Joint BC Peer Group, hosted by SASCU (Salmon Arm Savings & Credit Union). 

BVCU’s CEO, Jana Lukasek, and Board Chair, Sue Jones, joined leaders from across the province for the two‑day event, which offered meaningful opportunities for collaboration, connection, and shared learning among credit unions.

Throughout the event, participating credit unions contributed to a 50/50 fundraiser supporting students in Tumbler Ridge as the community continues to heal from the tragic events earlier this year. All proceeds will go directly to the Tumbler Ridge Secondary School Parent Advisory Council (TRE/TRSS PAC) to help enhance student wellbeing and learning environments.

The participating credit unions worked together to reach the $20,000 fundraising cap, with additional contributions made directly to the PAC. Final totals are expected to reach between $22,000 and $25,000.

In a message of appreciation, the TRE/TRSS PAC shared: “The resources will be used to enhance our learning spaces, helping us create environments that are more comfortable, welcoming, and supportive for all learners.”

The success of this initiative reflects the importance of collaboration within our peer group and the difference we can make when we work collectively to serve our communities.
